The Music at Grand Boulevard Went Quiet in July. Miramar Beach's Storefronts Didn't.

On a Thursday evening in early June, Grand Park was doing what it does every summer: string lights, folding chairs claimed early, a local band running through a set of soul and R&B while people wandered between restaurants along the Boulevard with plates and drinks. That show wrapped for the season on July 2, closed out by an Emerald Coast Theatre Company performance timed to Independence Day weekend. If you measured Grand Boulevard's summer by its concert calendar alone, you'd think the season peaked in early July and has been coasting since.

You'd be wrong. The free entertainment series was never the whole story at Grand Boulevard this year. While the Thursday stage and the new Tuesday dance parties were pulling in crowds, a separate and more permanent kind of activity was happening a few doors down: actual businesses signing leases, building out space, and opening doors. That activity didn't stop when the music did. It's still going as of this month.

The summer soundtrack, on the record

Grand Boulevard ran two free weekly series out of Grand Park this year. Bands on the BLVD, the property's long-running Thursday concert series, kicked off its spring run in March and moved into its summer schedule on May 21, with seven performances running through July 2, each from 6 to 8 p.m. New this year was the Big BLVD Bash, a Tuesday evening DJ dance party series that launched May 26 and ran through June 30, also free and also in Grand Park.

Both series are now finished for the summer. That's worth saying plainly, because event listings and aggregator sites tend to keep old dates floating around long after they've passed, and if you're planning a Thursday night out at the Boulevard right now expecting a band on the lawn, you'll find the space empty.

What Ran Status as of August 2026
Bands on the BLVD (Thursdays) May 21 – July 2 Ended
Big BLVD Bash (Tuesdays) May 26 – June 30 Ended
Grand Boulevard Farmers' Market Every Saturday Ongoing

Shades Bar & Grill Late summer 2026 Opening soon

What opened while the band was still playing

Three weeks before the Tuesday dance parties wrapped, a different kind of opening happened just up the road. Everbowl, an acai and smoothie bowl chain, opened its first Florida Panhandle location on June 19 at Miramar Plaza, marking the brand's debut on the Emerald Coast. The store isn't run by a distant franchise operator. It's owned by Laurentiu and Casie Cernat, a local couple with a combined background in restaurant operations, real estate, and small business ownership. Everbowl's own leadership called out that local grounding directly, noting the Cernats had "already shown a genuine commitment to their community" before the doors even opened.

That distinction matters more than it might seem. A seasonal pop-up or a tourist-facing concept can close as easily as it opens once summer traffic thins. A franchise bought and operated by two people who already live in the area, with two decades of combined local business experience between them, is a different kind of bet. It's a bet on Tuesday afternoons in October, not just Fourth of July weekend.

What's coming as the lights come down

The next arrival at Grand Boulevard follows the same pattern. Shades Bar & Grill, a sports bar concept from Spell Restaurant Group, is set to open at the western entrance to Grand Boulevard in late summer 2026. This isn't a new brand testing the market. Shades' original location has operated in Inlet Beach for three decades, and the Grand Boulevard build-out marks the Shades brand's second location, bringing Spell Restaurant Group's overall portfolio to ten restaurants across Florida and Tennessee. The new spot will carry over the flagship's format: a chef-driven menu, more than a dozen beer taps, and enough screens for anyone who wants to watch a game on a Tuesday in September rather than a Saturday in June.

Spell Restaurant Group has built its Emerald Coast reputation on repeat business rather than one-time visits. Its flagship became known for the kind of weekly rhythm that keeps a bar full in February as well as July: trivia nights, seasonal parties, and a following loyal enough that Yelp named it among its 2025 list of Top 100 Family Friendly Restaurants nationally. Betting that pattern will translate to Grand Boulevard is a signal about who the ownership group thinks the customer actually is.

The one thing that never went on a schedule

There's a third piece of this that doesn't show up in any grand-opening press release: the Grand Boulevard Farmers' Market runs every Saturday, no season listed, no end date attached. It's free and it doesn't pause for the shoulder season the way the concert series does. If Bands on the BLVD and the Big BLVD Bash represent Grand Boulevard's marketing calendar, the Saturday market represents something closer to its actual pulse. It's been running long enough and consistently enough that nobody bothers writing a press release when a new one happens. It just happens.

What this actually tells you about Grand Boulevard right now

Put the pieces next to each other and a pattern shows up that a single event listing won't give you. The Tuesday and Thursday programming Grand Boulevard used to draw summer crowds ran on a fixed clock and that clock stopped in early July. But the two most significant business openings tied to the property this year, everbowl and Shades, both landed either during or immediately after that programming window, and both are backed by owners with existing local track records rather than first-time operators testing a market. That's not a coincidence of timing. It's a property leasing to operators who are betting on foot traffic that exists independent of a concert calendar.

For anyone who already calls Miramar Beach home, that's useful information beyond just knowing where to grab a smoothie bowl or watch a game this fall. It means the version of Grand Boulevard worth paying attention to isn't the one that peaks for ten weeks each summer and goes quiet. It's the one still filling storefronts in August, after the stage lights are off and the folding chairs are packed away. The Emerald Coast Theatre Company, which closed out this year's concert series, also runs regular programming at Grand Boulevard's own venue well past the free outdoor series, which is one more sign that the property's actual season runs longer than its highlight reel suggests.

If you're already walking the Boulevard on a Tuesday night looking for something to do now that the DJ series has wrapped, everbowl is open. Shades will be soon. And the Saturday market, as always, doesn't need an announcement to show up.

Grand Boulevard's evolution is one small piece of what makes Miramar Beach worth paying attention to, whether you're grabbing dinner this week or thinking further down the road.
